I'm giving stuff away!

What convention would be complete without a round of Boner Donor Bingo?

Hello my wonderful stalkers! I hope that this post finds you in good spirits and ready for some fantastic giveaways. I am a little late posting this due to life kicking my mortal behind, but I'm here now and ready to share. I recently found myself in Chicago for the RT Convention. I wasn't able to go all week, but the time I did spend there was amazing and I'm looking forward to next year in Kansas City.
Anne Rice, me, and a bunch of vampire happiness!
J.R. Ward looking fabulous!
I got to meet Anne Rice! I may have done a little happy dance in my head. I also noticed that J.R. Ward looks like one classy broad. Among all of the mental freaking out I did, I was able to talk with several authors and publishers.
Yes, he's pretty.  He's also a doctor... and author!
Omnific Publishing showed up with bells on and some beautiful eye candy. Dr. Ivan Rusilko. Girls, do me a favor and remember that name. He's a doctor, Mr. USA World, body builder, cover model, and author of the soon to be released book, The Winemaker's Dinner. I'm currently waiting in line for that release. Ok, maybe not, but I WILL be one of the first to read it!

There was also something I noticed among my fellow bookworms... We love to drink. It's a little bit crazy. Every room I walked into had someone shoving drinks and sweets into your hand. I found my happy place.
While I didn't get to stay for very long, it did get me excited for this upcoming year.
What does this mean for all of you? Well, I did bring home a car full (yes, a car full) of books, posters, autographs, swag of all forms. Let's get this started and the first ten people that leave their name and email address (you can hit me up on facebook and twitter as well)will get an envelope of bookmarks.
Hey, I have to start somewhere. I also promise that the more followers I get will mean the prizes will get bigger and better! Till next time <3 Amanda

The Well of Truth (Kindred Blood, Book 2) by Amber Riley with guestpost and giveaway

Today I have back with me, Amber Riley.  Amber is the author of the Kindred Blood  series. You can read more about her first book HERE and if you like what you are reading, please leave your name and email address in the comment section for your chance to win a copy of this ebook. <3 Amanda

Title:  The Well of Truth (Kindred Blood, Book 2)
Author:  Amber Riley
Publisher:  Self
Length:  Approx. 50,000 words
Genre:  Paranormal/Fantasy YA

BLURB:
Kaden has made a promise to the Iustitia. In exchange for helping the vampire hunters rid Rome of their supernatural infestation, he will never be hunted by the church-assuming he makes it out of the country alive. With a master vampire who is letting the city be terrorized, Kaden must uncover his true motives before it is too late.

Something dangerous is closing in on Kaden, and he cannot afford to be weak. Inside Vatican City, the vampires are more vulnerable than they have ever been. But with his independence on the line, Kaden is breaking every rule in the book, putting everyone's lives at risk. Worse yet, he is feeling things again-things he has not felt in centuries. He must find a way to completely sever his ties with the past. Unfortunately, in a city that is supposed to be off limits to all vampires, Kaden finds more than he bargained for-and loses even more.

"The Well of Truth" tells a haunting tale in which a hardened vampire will realize that some secrets are better left in the dark.

EXCERPT:
Sullivan was pulled backward. I didn’t dare take my eyes from Tobias. He appeared to be sleeping, but vampires could be excellent actors. That was one reason I hesitated to go into the room. The other reason was fear. The room was a vampire’s hell, and I didn’t want to be anywhere near it. I would never survive being locked inside.

“Kaden, stop,” Vin demanded. “Get away from the door.” There was the sound of impact and he began coughing.

“What are you waiting for?” Flo hissed.

I chanced it. I looked back. Flo’s back was blistered and red, Stu’s face was covered in blood, and Sullivan’s neck was slowly healing from a large gash. There wasn’t any time left to waste. I had to kill him and get us out of the tunnels safely.

I turned to the tomb again and jumped, banging my head on the stone. Tobias was sitting with his legs crossed and his hands curled over his knees. He looked up at me calmly with angry hazel eyes.

“Hello,” he said hoarsely. “I don’t believe we’ve met.”

Title:  The Land of Tears (Kindred Blood, Book 3)
Author:  Amber Riley
Publisher:  Self
Length:  Approx 50,000 words
Genre:  Paranormal/Fantasy YA

BLURB:
Spain is the one place Kaden never planned to see again. Years after he escaped the master vampire, he has never looked back—until now. As he stands before enemy vampires and werewolves, he knows that determination is the only thing that can save Lyn from her captives. Everything Kaden has worked so hard for has to be forgotten. He must become a ruthless killer once again.

After everything Kaden has done to remain free, he has purposely walked back into his old life, leaving his friends behind in order to protect them. Now, in the midst of a bad game of hide and seek with Phoenix, Kaden must fool everyone into thinking he has returned for all the right reasons. But Phoenix is not easily swayed. He still resents Kaden for leaving and letting Tobias out of his tomb. Kaden is running out of time. If his plan fails, there will never be another opportunity.

In the third tale of the Kindred Blood series, a young life depends on whether Kaden can convince Phoenix and his fellow vampires to trust him. One way or another, things are about to end where they all began."

EXCERPT:
The headlights of a Volkswagen blinked at me once. I approached the car and bent to the driver’s side window. “Hey, Max.”

“Hello,” he replied slowly. He turned in his seat to look behind him. “Gabriel, are you sure about this?”
“We talked it through last night,” he said softly. “It will be fine.”

Max sighed. “Just remember what they said.” When Gabriel didn’t answer, he continued on. “Your brother has been filled in, like you asked. But please stick to the plan. I don’t want to make that phone call.”

Gabriel’s pale hand reached for the handle. I quickly opened the car door and helped him onto the street. “I am perfectly clear on what is going to happen.”

Max said a few lines in Italian. Gabriel smiled and replied. I didn’t know what they said, but it seemed important. The look Max gave me before driving away was unreadable, but it was clear that our relationship hinged on how the night ended.

She Who Blogs Behind The Rows

April 17
Writer’s block strikes every writer at some point. The thought of putting even one more word down seems utterly impossible. That blinking cursor seems to be taunting you, the Jeopardy theme song playing in the back of your mind. Don’t listen to those negative things running through your head when that happens. You can write more, but a little breather might be in order first. The creative juices need time to fill back up.
Being stuck is never any fun. So, get out there and find fun in something else for a day. Read a book you love. Watch a movie you’ve been dying to see. Take a walk. Whatever clears your mind. I find that a nap works well for me most of the time and I wake up with a new view on things.
When that doesn’t work, I write through the block. Of course, the results are horrid. I have to either edit those pieces out completely or spend a ridiculous amount of time turning it into something readable. But, the reason writing through it works for me sometimes is that it gets me to a part of the story where I’m no longer stuck.
When I outline, there are always three or four scenes that I can’t wait to write. I call them Holiday Scenes because, like a holiday, I can’t wait for them to arrive. If I get stuck between them, I plow through. Writing the Holiday Scene usually gives me renewed energy that will stick around until I can get to the next one. (Except when writer’s block strikes...)
Forcing your way through the wall can also be a good thing. It has given me new ideas and directions that I hadn’t thought of before. Let your characters take you where they need to go. If you try letting them run the show, the worst thing that can happen is that you have to delete part of your manuscript. It sucks, yes. But, think of all the possibilities.
Writers block is usually the author overthinking things. Relax and let your subconscious take the lead for awhile. Even if it doesn’t give you anything you can use, or give you new inspiration, it will get you past your block.
Show that blinking cursor who’s boss.

Review for Crushed Seraphim by Debra Anastasia

  • Paperback: 194 pages
  • Publisher: Omnific Publishing; 1ST edition (2011)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1936305747
  • ISBN-13: 978-1936305742
As some of you may know, I just attended the RT Convention in Chicago this past weekend.  While sitting in line I read this book.  It was a really long line.  While I was walking in I noticed the publishers sitting right there!  I had my little fan girl moment because I've read just about everything they have released (most of the reviews are on goodreads).  I was told that there is going to be a sequel to this story.  I NEED that book!  It was a great time and I am looking forward to several upcoming publications (*ahem* paging Dr. Ivan).  Ok, enough chit chat and on to the review...

 4.75/5 Stars!

I cannot give a five star review to a book that makes me like the devil.  It disturbs me greatly.  Why would I cheer for a being that most of us are taught to fear and keep the hell away from?  Because at the end of the day, Debra

Book Tour: The Girls' Guide to Dating Zombies by Lynn Messina

The Girls Guide to Dating Zombies
by Lynn Messina
Published by Potatoworks Press
Action/Adventure, Comedy, Mystery/Thriller, Romance

BLURB:

Hattie Cross knows what you're thinking: Zombie sex? Ewwwww. But she also knows that since a virus turned 99.9999 percent of human males into zombies, it's statistically impossible to meet--let alone date--the remaining 0.00001 percent. So she writes "The GirlsGuide to Dating Zombies" to help her fellow single women navigate the zombie-relationship waters.

Her practical how-to impresses the CEO of the largest drug company in the world, and before she knows it, Hattie, a reporter for a downmarket tabloid that specializes in conspiracy theories, is sitting down with the woman who single-handedly invented the zombie-behavioral-modification market. Granted access to the inner sanctum of zombaceuticals, she meets an actual, living, breathing M-A-N.

Now Hattie, the consummate professional, is acting like a single girl at the end of the twentieth century: self-conscious, klutzy and unable to form a coherent sentence without babbling. Worst of all, the human male appears to have impaired her ability to think clearly. Because all of a sudden she's convinced a conspiracy is afoot at the drug company and it seems to go all the way to the top!

EXCERPT #1:

Introduction
Why Date a Zombie?

IF YOU’VE BOUGHT this book, then you’re either dating a zombie or thinking about dating a zombie. You know that in this postblight world, your chances of getting hijacked by a terrorist, being staked to a bamboo pole in the Heilongjiang Province of Inner Mongolia and having your spleen eaten by a saber-tooth tiger are eight times greater than meeting one of the estimated 344,923 men left on the planet.

You’re a practical young woman who isn’t willing to waste her time on impossible fantasies sold to her by the Hollywood dream machine.

Welcome to the rest of your life.

Naturally, as sensible as you are, part of you can’t help but wonder if dating a zombie is settling. Can’t a woman like you—smart, funny, attractive, kind—do better than an animated clump of rotting flesh that lives only to consume brains?

No, you can’t.

With 99.9999 percent of the male population transformed into zombies, all that are left are animated clumps of rotting flesh that live only to consume brains.

But you don’t have to be a glass-half-empty girl. Your cup runneth over. You just have to be able to see it.

And that’s why you’re reading The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies. This book will help you understand and navigate the challenges and rewards of the zombie-dating lifestyle. You’ll learn how to…

Meet zombies. Discover where they hang out and who they hang out with. The best zombie hotspots are just around the corner!
Talk to zombies. Chatting with the reliving is easier than you’ve ever imagined! All you need to know are a few key phrases and you and a zombie can have hours of deep, meaningful conversation.
Dance with zombies. They might not have brains but boy, do they have rhythm. Master the step-drag-step of their beloved merengue and dance the night away with the zombie of your dreams.
Make love with zombies. Physical contact doesn’t have to be icky or gross. With the right accessories and hygiene products, the fetid flesh of a zombie can smell as lovely as a garden rose.
Cohabitate with zombies. Zombieproofing your home has never been so easy! A few simple changes will make your living room a safe environment for any zombie, however oblivious to fire, sharp corners and the precious Ming vase your grandmother left you.
Medicate zombies. Medication is domestication. All a zombie needs to be a productive member of society is the right dosage. The chart in chapter 21 makes it easy for you to figure out which pills your zombie needs and when.

Remember, at the heart of every relationship is companionship, and this is what zombies provide—in spades.

Zombies are steady.
Zombies are reliable.
Zombies are here.

Plus, they love to go shoe shopping (more about that later!).

I’m not saying that zombies are better than men. Perish the thought! But men are gone and now we women have to do what we’ve done since time immemorial: Make the best of what we have.

And it’s a pretty darn good best!

Trust me, I know. I’ve been having satisfying zombie relationships for over six years and with the help of this book, you will too. Turn the page to get started right now.

EXCERPT #2:

The Sweet Treat Sofa

THE HIGH-FIBER Breakfast Hour’s Sweet Treat segment kicks off every morning with a flashing red light, a piercing police siren and a dancing pink panda carrying a fuchsia sign that says, i love high-fructose corn syrup fluff from funfoods, across the set. The crowd hoots and hollers because everyone loves a pink panda hopped up on sugar.

The director points to the host, who smiles into the camera as it cuts to her from the audience. “Good morning and welcome back to The High-Fiber Breakfast Hour. Joining me on the luscious pink sofa today is an extra sweet treat for you: Hattie Cross, author of The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies.” Delia Fortune, a former Miss America with a towering strawberry bouffant and sparkling superwhite teeth, turns to me with a searching look. “Hattie, we have lots of ground to cover, but I’m going to get right to the nitty-gritty and say, Zombie sex. Ewww.”

I laugh. It’s completely forced and fake, but I’m on a national morning show with a pink panda and a strawberry bouffant. If I can’t roll with a few ewwws, then I should have stayed in bed. “Fair enough. The thought makes a lot of women go ewww.” I look to the audience. “Am I right?”

The response is mixed. Some women clap, but an almost equal number boo. I’m not surprised. Zombie sex has been around for almost as long as variant Y zombies.

“I can tell from the response that some of the ladies here have tried it.” Another round of cheers follows. “I’ll admit that sex with a zombie isn’t the ideal situation. The ideal situation is sex with a human male. Who here has had sex with a human male?”

Dead silence.

“None of us, right? Because human males haven’t existed for the average woman in twenty years. So if you keep that in mind, zombie sex isn’t bad at all. It can certainly be more satisfying than masturbation.” I turn to my host with a twinkle in my eye. “I’m sorry. Can I say masturbation on morning TV?”

Delia twinkles back. “Of course. It’s 2020. You can say anything. But let’s get really real: Zombies smell. They lose body parts. Their flesh is decaying.”

I nod profusely. “All valid points. However, with the right drug regimen, these conditions can be controlled. For example, Zombreeze neutralizes zombie smell from the inside. It can even make your boyzomb smell like roses. I devote an entire chapter to zombaceuticals in my book.”

“I’m glad you brought up drugs. Isn’t it true that you have to medicate zombies for them to have sex? Doesn’t that underscore how unnatural the act is?”

“All living and reliving things have a sex drive,” I explain. “It’s the basic nature of the beast. Sure, you have to use certain chemical stimulants in order for the zombie to perform physically, but the drive is there. Think of the late-twentieth-century male suffering from erectile dysfunction. It’s the same principal.”

The audience cheers again. “All right. But kissing. You have to admit that’s pretty gross.”

“Oh, completely,” I say with girlish glee. The effort of being so aggressively upbeat is starting to make me light-headed, but I stay the course. “Kissing a zombie isn’t for everyone. It’s certainly not for me. But that’s a decision each woman should be free to make. Again, I refer you to late-twentieth-century practices that some women chose to perform and others didn’t. I think of kissing as the equiv-alent to what used to be described as swallowing.” I nod to the audience. “You know what I’m talking about, right?”

The cheers turn into howls and last a full thirty seconds.

Delia quiets the audience with a wave. “All right. We’ve talked about the worst part of dating a zombie. Now let’s talk about the best. What tops the list?”

“Never having to sit by the phone waiting for him to call. No mind games. No wondering if he likes you or doesn’t like you. No obsessing,” I say, referring to the common neurotic female practice that was at the heart of dating human males two decades ago.

“I can get behind that,” Delia says.

“So I’m starting to win you over?”

1.  First things first... How do you take your coffee?
I take it with tea leaves, hold the coffee beans.

2. What was your favorite character to write? Why?
Not quite a character, but I loved writing the sample chapters from the actual Girls' Guide to Dating Zombies, which Hattie wrote and are included in the book. I had a total blast writing in fake-advice-column style. I work in women's magazines, so I know the tone really well and how to mix it up—one chapter is a quiz, another is a chart, a third is a list of misconceptions. The absolute best part was poking fun of guys and relationships by exploring all the ways a relationship with a zombie resembles a relationship with a man. As the author of the Girls' Guide, Hattie Cross is a a zombie apologist, and she constantly takes little digs at human men, implying that zombies aren't that much worse. For example, she concedes that, no, your zombie boyfriend won't notice your fabulous new 'do, but, she points out, when was the last time your human boyfriend noticed you got your hair cut? At one point, she even implies that dating a zombie is better than dating a man,

3. Do you personally identify to any of your characters?
I identify with Hattie's attempt to make the best of a bad situation and the way she convinces herself that everything is great. I do that all the time, only I'm not so good at the convincing part. I'm better at the worrying. But still, I try.

4.  How long have you been writing?
Since I was fourteen. I read a book with an absurd plot, thought, "I can do better than that," then sat down and tried. I'm not sure I achieved the goal, but more than two decades later, I'm still trying.

5. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Keep at it. Fashionistas, which was the first book I sold, was actually the eleventh book I wrote.

6. Many authors have a play list set to their story. Do you have a playlist? Care to share if you do?
I don't have a playlist. I can't listen to music when I'm writing, and I've never imagined what my characters would listen to. My iPod is stuck in the midnaughts, anyway. I don't think I've downloaded a new song since 2008.

7. Who is on your elevator list?
I never take the elevator. I stick with the stairs. I need the cardio.

8. In a few words, why should people read this book?
Laugh-out-loud funny with great suspense.

9. Why zombies?
I couldn't think of anything in the world less date worthy, and that challenge of making them so was irresistible.

10. What has been the best book you have read so far this year?
Manhattan When I Was Young by Mary Cantwell. It's a memoir about being a writer and mother in Greenwich Village, and since I'm a writer and mother in Greenwich Village, so much of the landscape, both real and emotional, is familiar.

Blog Barrage: Finding My Faith (The Six Savior Series, Book 2) by Carly Fall

“Finding My Faith (The Six Savior Series, Book 2)”
by Carly Fall
Published by Westward Publishing
Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Romance

BLURB:

Growing up in a small Northern Arizona town, Faith Cloudfoot’s life was spent playing in the forests surrounding her house under the protective eyes of her father, and learning about the legends of her Native American heritage. Yearning for more out of her life, she moves to Phoenix, Arizona at the age of twenty-three where she is kidnapped and almost killed.

Rayner has a special ability, one that weighs on him like a curse. He can see spirits trapped in between life and their final resting place. Because he can’t do much to help them, he studiously ignores them. He concentrates, instead, on working with his fellow warriors to right the wrongs caused by the evil criminals from his home planet.

When Rayner sees Faith in her spirit form while investigating a lead in Phoenix, his attraction to her is immediate, yet he follows his own personal code and ignores her cry for attention. When he realizes that she may be a stepping stone to getting him home to his own universe, he engages Faith and begins to use her as a means to an end: going home.

As the attraction grows stronger, Rayner finds himself breaking all sorts of self-set rules, as well as the code of ethics set by him and his fellow warriors. When Faith nears death, Rayner realizes that he must do everything in his power to save her, because if he doesn’t, he may just lose himself.

EXCERPT #1:

Rayner knew what he was doing was wrong, but he simply couldn't help himself.  He should have left the room a while back, but seeing Faith standing in the middle of the room in that little blue nightshirt and watching her get angry at him had jacked him up to levels he had never known before.  Holy Christ, he wanted her even more when she yelled at him, and when she had come at him with that little fist, oblivious to their size difference…it had sent him right to the edge.  He would have to explore the psychiatry of that later.  Right now, he was busy teetering on a very dangerous slope.  He just wanted Faith.  He didn't care about consequences, what would happen later, or what would happen in three minutes.  He was only in the moment, and the moment consisted of Faith's hand on his raging erection.

He wanted those lips, but he knew if he kissed her, he would be a goner.  A total goner.  Game over, hit the lights because his party would be over.  So he kissed her cheek, which was soft and warm and just a little damp from all those tears that had ripped at his heart.  He hadn't meant to actually nip at her earlobe.

He needed to disengage and get away from her.

Instead he placed his hand at the nape of her neck and pulled her forward—the only thing separating them was their hands, her little fist wrapped in his big paw.

"Rayner—"

"Don't say another word, Faith," he whispered.  "Just don't."

He closed his eyes and brought a lock of her hair up to his nose, smelling the fresh mountain breeze scent he had come to associate with Faith.  His chest grew tight, his breathing became more labored as the silky strands whispered across his skin.  He wanted her with a ferocity that bordered on insanity.  What beat within him now was nothing but raw male need, all pretenses of manners and gentlemanly etiquette long gone.

When he felt her hand lay flat on his chest, and she turned her head and rested her cheek on his chest, he thought back to his dream and how good it felt to have Faith touch him, to be near her.  To have it happen in real life was a zillion and one times better than the dream.

"I think I'm in love with you, Rayner," she whispered.

He knew that from the ceremony to get her spirit back in her body.  It still shook him to his core to hear her say it.  His skin developed goose bumps; his knees went weak at her words.

“You can't love me, Faith,” he said into her hair.

“It's too late,” she breathed into his chest.  “Too late.”

He knew what he had to do.  He needed this to end, to come to a halt, a full stop with brakes screeching. He thought his heart might break, crack, or just fucking stop with his next words.  “But it's not too late to let me go,” he whispered.  He let go of her neck and hand and stepped away.  He didn't meet her eyes as he opened the door and stepped out.

EXCERPT #2:

Faith stood on the sidewalk watching the five o'clock crowd hustle and bustle around her and through her.  She had a little inner war going on, and she wasn't sure what to do about her predicament.

When she realized she was literally walking around outside of her body, she had panicked.  It seemed like the reasonable thing to do, given the circumstances.  She had tried to communicate with a few people today, but with no luck.

There were a couple of times she thought that maybe someone had felt her or even seen her.  There was one woman Faith had been certain she was connecting with—an older woman waiting for a bus.  Her gray hair looked like a halo as the sunlight filtered through it, and her heavy body was covered by an old green-and-brown dress.  Faith had stood in front if her and yelled, over and over.  Can you see me?  Please help me!  The woman stood still for a moment, her dark eyes wide in horror or shock, then she’d grabbed the cross she wore around her neck and began praying in Spanish.

Then there was that guy on the corner who she’d sworn had seen her.  He had stuck out in the crowd like a dead rat at a dinner table.  Among all the suits and skirts, he had towered over everyone, his shoulders the size of a small jet runway.  He was dressed in a pair of jeans, black leather boots and coat, and a black t-shirt that had Affliction blazed across the chest in red.  His blond hair hung to his chin in one length, and he had two gold hoops in his right ear.  He was wearing sunglasses, so she couldn't see his all of his face, but she could tell he was definitely nice on the eyes.  He had stood at the corner looking at the street signs and the buildings as if he were lost.  As she had moved closer to him, she noticed he became more agitated.  When she stopped in front of him and he didn't say or do anything, she kept moving.

Now she wondered if it was a good thing she couldn't get anyone's attention.

She was in unchartered territory here.  She supposed the first thing she needed to establish was if she was alive or dead.  Going by most religions, she wasn't dead because she would be in some form of Heaven or Hell.  Even going by some of the Native American beliefs, she might have been reincarnated as some type of animal if she were dead.  She was not in Heaven or Hell, nor was she a cat, dog, rabbit, or any other animal.  She was standing on Second Street in downtown Phoenix.  However, if she held out her hand, she could see right through it.  She watched as a man approached her, and she stepped directly in his path. He walked through her, never missing a step.  So she wasn't in her corporeal body.  If she wasn't dead, if she wasn't in her corporeal body, then she was somewhere in between life and death.

REVIEW:

Five Stars - Romance Writer's Reads:

There's always something to worry about when reading the sequel to a book you love. If your expectations are high, you may worry about feeling let down if the second book in a series doesn't live up to the first. As much as I loved book 1, I was hoping that Finding My Faith would capture me the same way. It did!

I loved Rayner and Faith. Faith was one of those headstrong heroines who is not stupid or annoying her independence, and Rayner was the perfect blend of alpha male and heart.

I appreciated that there wasn't a huge info dump, much like what you would have to suffer through in most sequels. The same story of Rayner's alien race was told, but this time from his point of view,
giving it a different angle and a new perspective. I loved how even though Rayner and Faith were from two different worlds, they were both so similar. Faith is Native American and Rayner is from the 'forest
people' of his planet...the two go together like opposite ends of an Oreo!

The love scenes were tender but also scorching hot! I liked how the sexual tension was allowed to build to an explosive level before 'it' finally happened. The chemistry between Rayner and Faith didn't
disappoint!

I am really looking forward to book 3 in the series, just as much as I was looking forward to this one. Well done Carly!
